Troy, OH - Temple women's outdoor track team had an impressive finish at the 2001 Verizon Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Dayton at Troy Memorial Stadium this past weekend (May 5 - 6). The Owls finished fifth overall with a combined score of 92. The Owls won the 4 x 100-meter relay for the second straight year posting a time of 47.00. The team consisted of sophomore Naomi Beverly, freshman Samantha Porter, sophomore Edith Lewis and Senior Afia Brown. The Owls also won the 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 3:52.06, over four seconds better than the second place team from University of Rhode Island. Brown would go on to defend her title in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.13 and 24.69. Beverly finished second behind Brown in both of these events (12.34, 25.29) and Jessica Jennings came in third in the 200-meter dash (25.45). In the 400-meter dash, Porter placed first with a time of 56.77 and senior Kasha Benson Craig came in sixth (59.32). Temple's next competition is May 12 - 13 at the James Madison Invitational.
