MEN'S AND WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD COMPETE IN MARYLAND INVITATIONAL
 

 
 
 

 

 
 

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple men's and women's track and field competed in the Maryland Invitational this past weekend, December 8, 2001. Up against as many as ten other schools, the Owls had a finalist in every event in which they competed.

For the women, junior Naomi Beverly had an eighth place finish in the 60 meter dash and a ninth place finish in the 200 m dash. Chanel Dale placed 6th overall in the 400 meter run while freshman Tanesha Shelton and sophomore Nicole Porter finished 13th and 14th in the 800 meters finals. The Owls lone distance runner, Kerrie Stephanick, finished 9th overall in the 5,000 meter run. In the 60 meter hurdles, freshmen Rachel Clinton and Jessica Dunston finished 7th and 8th respectively. In the jumps, Sasha Roberts and Brandi Upshaw finished 8th and 10th in the high jump while Farren Benson, Edith Lewis and Ashley Holiday finished 9th, 11th and 14th respectively in the long jump. Lewis and Holiday also competed in the triple jump where they placed 7th and 11th. In their lone field event, shot put, the Owls Rashida Stamps and Enewan Adjah placed 18th and 21st.

For the men, senior Otis Hudson and freshman John Albright finished 21st and 26th in the 200 meter dash while Bryant Adams and Dale Letterlough placed 13th and 21st in the 400 meter dash. In the 60 meter hurdles, Albright and junior Tracy Champion finished 4th and 11th respectively. The lone men's high jumper, Ben Amis, placed 11th in the finals. Sophomore Kevin Kelley, the only Owl competing in the pole vault, had a season high fourth place finish. In the jumps, freshmen Romeo Wilson finished 10th place in the long jump while Dwayne Shaw placed 7th in both the long and triple jumps.

After the holidays, the Owls hit the road again to travel to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Invitational on January 19-20.
