Women's Crew Dedicates New Shell
4.21.11 | Women's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA - Temple Women's Crew dedicated a new rowing shell following the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships this past Saturday in memory of Valerie Altimari. The mother of current graduate extern and former rower Laura Altimari, Valerie lost her battle with pancreatic cancer last spring.
Valerie was former vice president and right hand assistant to Friends of Temple Rowing President Rick Gross. A big supporter of Temple Rowing, Valerie was the ultimate crew mom for all three of her children and was always at the river helping out. Her husband, Anthony, and daughters Monica, Christina and Laura were present for the dedication along with many friends, rowers, alumni and coworkers.
"It was a special day for Temple women's rowing," Temple head coach Tim Hagan said. "It was a great celebration of all the good things the Altimaris have done for Temple rowing and what Valerie meant to all of us. She is deeply missed but now her memory lives on with this new shell."
